Islamic House of Wisdom | Student Classes & Programs | Code of Conduct
EACH STUDENT HAS THE RESPONSIBILITY TO:
Respect the inherent human dignity and worth of every individual.
Be informed of and adhere to rules and regulations for the welfare and safety of students.
Be punctual and present for the school program.
Observe fair rules in conversation and free of libelous or slanderous remarks and obscenities in verbal and written expression.
Dress and appear in a manner that meets reasonable standards of health, cleanliness safety, and decency.
Help maintain and improve the building environment, preserve the mosque property, and exercise the utmost care while using the facilities.
Behave in an appropriate manner while in attendance.
Tuition (Program fee) Policy:
All families are expected to make tuition payments on time and according to the school’s payment policy.
Families failing to pay tuition according to the agreement will be informed that their child (ren) may not be admitted to the program. The program reserves the right to terminate students with delinquent balances and send their accounts to collections.
Attendance Policy:
Please adhere to the schedule to ensure the student is consistently in attendance and timely. Please notify the main office if you’re not able to attend.
It is your responsibility, as the parent, to ensure your student remains home when ill.
Students who have symptoms of respiratory or gastrointestinal infections, such as cough, fever, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea, should stay home.
IHW will request for parents to pick up children who is sick or not feeling well.
If a student does not want to attend class/program, parents will receive a call for pick-up.
Separation Anxiety: If your child has separation anxiety, we will try our best to comfort him/her!
Option 1: You may say bye at the door to let us work with your child (we will also keep you updated throughout the day on your child's progress as we understand parents worry).
Option 2: If you prefer to be involved with the transition/comforting process- you may take your child to the reception area to work with them until ready to join the class. Parents are not allowed in the classroom at any time for safety reasons. Teachers are required to stay with the class.
If separation anxiety continues, mutually - we will have to make a decision if this program is a good fit.
It's normal for kids to have anxiety for the first few sessions- we get it- yet crying throughout an ENTIRE day requires more attention than our humble programs can offer.
Drop-off Policy:
It is imperative that all parents drop off their children on time. When students arrive late, this can be disruptive not only to their own well-being but to the entire group.
Parents are not allowed to enter the classes at any time (unless they receive approval in advance).
Pick-Up Policy:
It is imperative that all parents pick up their children on time. Please don’t pick up early unless there is an emergency. Early pick-ups are a distraction for the teacher, class and learning of the child.
Every program is unique in their pick-up location, please refer to the guidance provided.
Dress Code:
Please adhere to the dress code of your program.
Islamic Modest dress is required for all.
For Women and Girls, 9 and older- scarves are required when in the building (even at pick-up and drop-off).
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones are not allowed.
Cell phone usage is not allowed during program hours unless authorized by the school administration.
Students who violate this policy will face disciplinary measures. In addition, their cell phone will be held by the office until picked-up by a parent.
If you need to contact your kids during program hours, you may call the main office at any time.
Parents and youth are reminded that the program is not responsible for the loss, damage, or theft of cell phones.
Student Code of Conduct
All students will adhere to the student code of conduct at all times.
As a parent, it is my responsibility to support and reinforce these codes of conduct with my child as a partner and advocate of the program. Ultimately, student success is our success!
Behavior policy:
Bullying or other aggressive behavior toward another child, whether by other students, staff, or third parties, including Board members, parents, guests, contractors, vendors, and volunteers, is strictly prohibited.
This prohibition includes written, physical, verbal, and psychological abuse, including hazing, gestures, comments, threats, or actions to a student, which cause or threaten to cause bodily harm, reasonable fear for personal safety or personal degradation.
Demonstration of appropriate behavior, treating others with civility and respect, and refusing to tolerate harassment or bullying is expected of administrators, faculty, staff, and volunteers to provide positive examples for student behavior.
Bullying is defined as any written, verbal or physical act or electronic communication that is intended or that a reasonable person would know is likely to harm one (1) or more students either directly or indirectly by:
substantially interfering with educational/activity opportunities;
affecting participation in programs or activities by placing the student in reasonable fear of physical harm or emotional distress;
having an actual or substantial detrimental effect on a student's physical or mental health; or
causing substantial disruption to the orderly operation of the school.
Any student who believes s/he has been or is the victim of bullying, hazing, or other aggressive behavior should immediately report the situation to the program administrator/teacher/trusted staff who are responsible for the investigation of such incidents.
If the investigation finds an instance of bullying or aggressive behavior has occurred, it will result in prompt and appropriate remedial action. This may include up to expulsion for students, and exclusion for parents, guests, and volunteers. Individuals may also be referred to law enforcement officials.
The parent(s) of the student responsible for the bullying behavior as well as the parent(s) of the victim of the bullying behavior shall be notified of the findings of the investigation, and as appropriate, that remedial action has been taken.
"Bullying" is defined as a person willfully and repeatedly exercising power or control over another with hostile or malicious intent (i.e. repeated oppression, physical or psychological, of a less powerful individual by a more powerful individual or group). Bullying can be physical, verbal, psychological, or a combination of all three. Some examples of bullying are:
Physical – hitting, kicking, spitting, pushing, pulling; taking and/or damaging personal belongings or extorting money, blocking or impeding student movement, unwelcome physical contact.
Verbal – taunting, malicious teasing, insulting, name-calling, making threats.
Psychological – spreading rumors, manipulating social relationships, coercion, or engaging in social exclusion/shunning, extortion, or intimidation.
Behavioral Watch
The Behavioral Watch Policy is a formal notice to the student that he/she has engaged in behavior that is unacceptable within the program. This notice is to indicate that if this behavior continues, or if other inappropriate behavior follows, more severe action may be taken, including the possibility of permanent dismissal from the program.
A student may also be placed on Behavioral Watch if a student repeatedly engages in disruptive behavior within the program/classroom, for multiple classes or repeatedly over a long period of time. The behavior is deemed as unacceptable, harmful, or disruptive to the program.
The Behavioral Watch is for a fixed period of time that is determined by both the teachers and administration accordingly.
Once it is deemed in the best interest of the child to be placed on a Behavioral Watch, parents will be notified and a meeting with the student, parents, teachers, and administration will take place to communicate a plan of action.
Plans are individualized and tailored to ensure the best interest of the student. The purpose of this Behavioral Watch Agreement is to provide students with additional support and structure so they may improve their standing.
We sincerely aim for a great experience for all and appreciate the cooperation of everyone in advance!
Student Termination (Expulsion)
The program team/administration holds the discretion to terminate (expel) children based on the level of offense and/or a 3rd offense of any level.
All tuition funds are nonrefundable.
During the behavioral watch, the student is placed on probation for one-month, during which his/her behavior must improve and adhere 100% to the school policy. Failure to meet the requirements of the behavioral watch after the term will lead to termination.
