IHW invited Congresswoman Debbie Dingell to Address the Community’s Concerns!

Following the hot discussion on the community social media regarding Congresswoman Dingell and HR2407, some members of IHW’s board suggested to arrange a meeting with her asking for clarification on what happened. Today (Sunday Sep 15th) around 10 am, I was told that the Congresswoman was in her way to D.C. but she would stop by IHW at 7 pm to talk with us.

The timing was extremely short, and we were unable to call all the community’s activists yet tried as many as we could and despite of being Sunday and short notice a good number of community members did make it.

We met and we all had chance to make our comments and ask our questions.

Debbie addressed the gathering and spoke about her position about the Israeli and Palestinian conflict and specially the suffering of the Palestinian kids.

The participants asked Debbi to call for a town hall meeting to address these issues publicly. She showed interest in a town hall meeting on the first possible opportunity when back from Washington D.C.

Conclusion:

1- Town hall meeting can be one of the healthy ways for dialogue and communication with our representatives.

2- We ask our community members, Muslims and non-Muslims, all those who stand for peace and justice to also write to other MI representatives and elected officials and express their concerns about domestic and international issues, being Gaza, West bank, Yemen, Lebanon, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan etc. We need to talk to our representatives and let them know about what we have in mind.

3- Our faith is about dialogue, if we can’t talk even with our representatives, then what is the alternative.

I would like to thank all who answered the call, came and shared thoughts, comments and critical questions.
