The Passing of Imam Abdullah el-Amin is a big loss for Michigan!
Thousands of mourners including representatives from the governor’s office, imams, and interfaith leaders met at Muslim Center in Detroit this morning, to say goodbye to imam Abdullah el-Amin a local interfaith hero who dedicated his life to Islam, Muslims, and interfaith communities over the last 40 years.
Imam Elahi reflected on his close relationship with the late imam Abdullah for the last 32 years and referred to the first conference on Shia-Sunni dialogue in Michigan suggested by the late imam and was held at IHW, it turned years later into a document, called Shia-Sunni Code of Honor.
Imam Elahi stated that Abdullah means servant of God, and the late imam truly served his Lord with a great sense of sincerity and love. He quoted Imam Ali (as) of 3 ways of worshipping God including greed, fear, and gratitude orientation. He concluded that worshipping out of gratitude is a sign of spiritual freedom and faith integrity.
Imam Abdullah was a man of courage, he stood for justice and responsibility and never sold his soul for material and power.
Imam Elahi prayed for the souls of the late imam Abdullah and quoted Rumi saying: my brother and friend Abdullah you won’t miss anything of this world, since you are free from this material cage and landing in your Lord-liberated land!
This is not your moment of goodbye and separation but a moment of connection with your Creator and His assembly of creation. This is not your sunset but preparation for your sunrise.
Imam Elahi called the late Abdullah a unique example in many areas of service and interaction and expressed his condolences to his daughter Zarina el-Amin and the rest of the family.
